Position Summary

The Caregiver/Resident Care Associate is responsible for providing daily care, support, and assistance to residents, helping them maintain dignity, comfort, and quality of life. This role includes assisting with personal care, mobility, meals, documentation, and ensuring residents receive prompt, respectful, and safe care in accordance with facility policies and state guidelines.



Key Responsibilities


Resident Care & Support
  • Assist residents with daily living activities such as bathing, dressing, grooming, toileting, oral care, and personal hygiene.

  • Keep residents clean, dry, and comfortable; change clothing, linens, and incontinence products as needed.

  • Assist with lifting, turning, repositioning, and safe transfers (beds, chairs, wheelchairs, lifts, etc.).

  • Support residents with restorative and rehabilitative activities as directed.

  • Provide care for disoriented, comatose, or end-of-life residents with compassion and professionalism.

  • Honor residents’ rights, including refusal of care, and report such situations promptly.



Safety, Observation & Reporting
  • Check frequently on residents who cannot call for help and routinely ensure all personal care needs are met.

  • Accurately measure and record vital signs (TPR), weight, intake/output, and other data as instructed.

  • Observe and report changes in condition, injuries, pressure areas, skin breakdown, or safety concerns to the nurse immediately.

  • Report accidents, incidents, and missing residents without delay.

  • Use only equipment you are trained to operate and report defective equipment promptly.



Resident Engagement & Environment
  • Create and maintain a warm, calm, and positive environment during every shift.

  • Greet new residents, assist with admission routines, and help them settle comfortably.

  • Help pack/unpack belongings and assist with transfers or discharges.

  • Serve meals, identify items on trays, provide feeding assistance, refresh water pitchers, and complete after-meal care.

  • Make occupied and unoccupied beds; provide extra blankets as requested.

  • Assist with grooming tasks such as hair care, shaving, nail care, and personal appearance.



Documentation & Compliance
  • Use approved methods and abbreviations when recording notes, flow sheets, or charts.

  • Maintain confidentiality and adhere to all HIPAA requirements.

  • Report suspected unauthorized access or disclosure of protected health information.

  • Follow facility procedures regarding exposure to blood/body fluids and workplace safety.

  • Attend nursing reports, follow work assignments, and complete tasks per policy.



Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.

  • Ability to read, write, and document care professionally.

  • Strong communication skills; able to interact respectfully with residents, families, and staff.

  • Basic math and reasoning skills to follow written and verbal instructions.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite preferred.

  • Previous caregiving experience in assisted living, long-term care, or home care is a plus (not required).



Physical Requirements
  • Ability to lift/move up to 25 lbs occasionally.

  • Ability to stand, walk, sit, bend, and use hands throughout the shift.

  • Ability to assist in evacuations and respond to emergencies.

  • Regular use of standard office and care equipment.
