Midtown Oaks Post Acute is seeking an experienced and motivated Director of Staff Development (DSD) to lead education, training, and competency development for our nursing team. This is a key leadership role focused on regulatory compliance, clinical excellence, and staff growth in a skilled nursing environment.






Position Overview

The Director of Staff Development is responsible for planning, coordinating, implementing, and evaluating all education and training programs for nursing and clinical staff. This role ensures compliance with CDPH, CMS, and Title 22 regulations while promoting best practices in resident care.






Key Responsibilities
  • Develop, implement, and oversee staff education and training programs in compliance with CDPH and federal regulations

  • Coordinate new hire orientation and ongoing education for nursing staff

  • Ensure completion of orientation, annual, and required in-service training

  • Conduct skills validation, competency assessments, and remediation

  • Maintain accurate training records for surveys, audits, and inspections

  • Educate staff on policies, procedures, and regulatory updates

  • Collaborate with Infection Preventionist on infection control education

  • Support QAPI initiatives and quality improvement efforts

  • Partner closely with DON, ADON, and interdisciplinary leadership

  • Assist with survey preparation and plans of correction related to staff education






Required Qualifications
  • Active California LVN license in good standing

  • Minimum 2 years of nursing experience

  • At least 1 year of skilled nursing facility (SNF) experience

  • Completion of a CDPH-approved Director of Staff Development (24-hour) course

    • (Must be completed within 6 months of hire if not already completed)

  • Strong knowledge of Title 22, CMS, and long-term care regulations






Preferred Qualifications
  • Previous experience as a DSD or Nurse Educator in a SNF

  • Strong teaching, leadership, and communication skills

  • Organized, detail-oriented, and survey-ready

  • Experience with electronic training systems or LMS platforms

  • Infection control or QAPI experience a plus
