General Purpose:

The primary purpose of the Maintenance Assistant position is to maintain the grounds, facility, and equipment in a safe and efficient manner, adhering to applicable federal, state, and local standards, guidelines, and regulations, as well as the facility's established policies and procedures.

Essential Duties:

  • Ensure adherence to maintenance schedules as outlined for the respective shift or area.

  • Report all accidents/incidents to the supervisor, regardless of severity.

  • Coordinate daily maintenance services with nursing when performing routine assignments in resident living areas.

  • Complete other related duties as directed by the supervisor, department director, or administrator.

  • Maintain confidentiality of resident protected health information and report any suspected violations.

  • Attend departmental and staff meetings as required.

  • Perform specific tasks as assigned in daily work assignments.

  • Address and file any complaints/grievances with your supervisor.

  • Carry out routine maintenance on grounds, including cutting, trimming, and cleaning as necessary.

  • Conduct maintenance and repairs on the facility’s plumbing, electrical, carpentry, and mechanical systems as directed.

  • Clean windows and screens as needed.

  • Replace burned-out light bulbs, including exit lights and overhead lights.

  • Service heating and cooling systems according to manufacturer specifications and established policies.

  • Handle unscheduled maintenance tasks as directed.

  • Ensure maintenance supplies are replenished in work areas.

  • Report equipment malfunctions to the supervisor promptly.

  • Follow safety precautions when performing tasks.

  • Assist in lifting heavy equipment or supplies as requested.

  • Maintain cleanliness and storage of equipment at the end of shifts.

  • Inform residents when necessary to move personal possessions.
