Position Summary

The Medication Technician is responsible for safely and accurately preparing, administering, and documenting medications for residents in accordance with state regulations and facility policies. This role also supports our nursing team, assists with resident care needs, and contributes to quality assurance efforts that help ensure the highest standards of service.



Key Responsibilities
  • Safely prepare, administer, and document oral and topical medications as ordered by physicians.

  • Verify resident identity prior to medication administration.

  • Observe residents after medication administration and promptly report any errors, refusals, or adverse reactions.

  • Maintain accurate medication documentation, including charting, discontinued meds, and receipt/error reporting.

  • Ensure all medications are properly labeled and stored according to facility policy.

  • Assist in identifying and preventing medication errors through proper procedures and communication.

  • Support nursing staff by measuring and recording vital signs and reporting concerns.

  • Maintain positive working relationships with residents, families, nurses, physicians, and pharmacists.

  • Participate in surveys, audits, and quality assurance activities as needed.

  • Ensure resident confidentiality and compliance with HIPAA standards.

  • Follow assigned schedules, work assignments, and facility procedures.

  • Assist with resident evacuation during emergency situations if necessary.



Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.

  • Must hold a current state-approved Medication Aide/Medication Technician certification.

  • Ability to read and interpret medical terminology, regulations, and written instructions.

  • Strong communication skills with the ability to write reports and interact professionally with staff and residents.

  • Ability to solve practical problems and follow detailed instructions.

  • Must be able to lift/move up to 25 lbs occasionally.

  • Ability to walk, stand, sit, and use office and medical equipment as needed.
