Registered Nurse (RN) – Skilled Nursing Facility Job Description





Position Summary:

A Registered Nurse (RN) in a skilled nursing facility (SNF) provides high-quality, patient-centered care to residents, often elderly or individuals recovering from illness, surgery, or injury. The RN oversees patient care, administers medications, collaborates with healthcare teams, and ensures compliance with regulatory standards.

Key Responsibilities:


  • Assess, monitor, and evaluate residents’ health conditions and responses to treatments.
  • Develop and implement individualized care plans in collaboration with physicians and interdisciplinary teams.
  • Administer medications, IVs, and treatments according to prescribed protocols.
  • Provide wound care, pain management, and rehabilitation support.
  • Supervise and direct Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs), Certified Nursing Assistants (CNAs), and other staff.
  • Educate residents and families on care plans, medications, and disease management.
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation of medical records and patient progress.
  • Respond to emergencies and provide critical care interventions as needed.
  • Ensure compliance with state and federal regulations, including infection control and patient safety protocols.
  • Promote a compassionate and respectful environment for residents and families.


Qualifications:


  • Education: Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Nursing (ADN or BSN).
  • Licensure: Active RN license in the state of practice.
  • Certifications: CPR/BLS certification 


Skills and Competencies:


  • Strong clinical assessment and critical thinking skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and handle multiple patients.
  • Leadership and team collaboration abilities.
  • Knowledge of electronic medical records (EMR) systems.


Pay Range: $42 - $62 DOE
