The Respiratory Therapist is responsible for providing high-quality respiratory care services in accordance with professional standards, facility policies, and physician directives. This role requires strong clinical assessment skills, attention to detail, and the ability to communicate effectively with residents, families, nurses, and interdisciplinary team members.
The individual in this position must demonstrate sound judgment, adherence to safety protocols, and a commitment to maintaining resident confidentiality and delivering person-centered care.
Receive and follow daily schedules, instructions, and protocols as assigned by the supervisor and outlined in facility policies
Adhere to all established policies and procedures within the facility or unit assigned
Conduct focused interviews and assessments to identify patient needs and changes in respiratory status
Assess physiological and psychosocial signs and symptoms indicating changes in resident condition
Collect, analyze, and interpret data from the healthcare team, documenting actual and/or potential diagnoses
Develop and implement care plans and expected outcomes based on assessments and patient needs
Perform respiratory care interventions according to identified priorities, care plans, facility standards, and regulatory requirements
Follow all emergency, safety, and infection control procedures
Report changes in residents’ respiratory status promptly to the Director/Supervisor of Respiratory Care Services, primary nurse, and physician as needed
Maintain good working relationships with nursing, medical, and interdisciplinary staff
Participate in activities promoting effective communication and teamwork
Protect resident confidentiality and comply with HIPAA and facility privacy policies
Report suspected or known violations of protected health information immediately to the Administrator
Assume responsibility and accountability for performing all duties within scope
Maintain accurate and timely documentation in accordance with facility policies
This position has no supervisory responsibilities.
Associate Degree from an accredited respiratory care program required
Bachelor of Science in a healthcare-related field preferred
Minimum one (1) year of respiratory experience in an acute and/or subacute care setting preferred
Current Respiratory Care Practitioner (RCP) license in the state of California
Current CPR/BLS and ACLS certifications
Knowledge of basic office equipment preferred
Ability to read, interpret, and apply information from professional journals, regulations, technical procedures, and care guidelines
Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedural documentation
Ability to communicate effectively with managers, staff, residents, and families
Strong mathematical skills, including fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions
Ability to solve practical problems and interpret a variety of instructions—written, oral, diagram, or schedule form
Must be able to lift and/or move up to 30 lbs
Regularly required to sit, stand, walk, read, hear, and communicate
Frequent use of office equipment including telephone, fax, copier, scanner, and computer
May be required to assist in resident evacuation during emergency situations
Reasonable accommodations may be made for individuals with disabilities
Noise level is generally low to moderate
Environment includes resident care areas, nursing stations, and common facility spaces
