The Treatment Nurse is responsible for providing skilled dermatologic and wound care services to residents in accordance with physician orders, established protocols, and facility policies. This role works closely with the Medical Director, Director of Nursing Services (DON), interdisciplinary care team, and families to ensure the highest level of resident care, comfort, and safety.
Make written and oral reports and recommendations to the attending physician, Medical Director, and Director of Nursing Services regarding resident condition and care.
Identify, manage, and treat skin disorders and lesions, including abrasions, foot conditions (corns/callouses), decubitus ulcers, infections (bacterial, parasitic, viral), scaling diseases, and benign tumors.
Perform comprehensive skin assessments using observation, inspection, and palpation; complete and document quarterly dermatologic examinations.
Provide therapeutic dermatologic services and collaborate with the Interdisciplinary Care Plan Team in developing and updating resident care plans.
Provide treatment for uncomplicated dermatologic conditions within established protocols and under physician supervision.
Ensure residents with pressure injuries receive appropriate prevention and treatment, including routine inspections, repositioning, activity, nutrition, and maintaining clean, dry bedding.
Deliver direct nursing care in emergencies or during illness or disability to maintain life, provide comfort, and reduce stress.
Assist with resident admissions, discharges, rehabilitation activities, range of motion, ambulation, and coordination with therapy services.
Work collaboratively with physicians, consultants, nursing staff, families, and external health agencies to support resident care transitions.
Participate in committees, in-service training, and continuing education programs to maintain clinical competency and licensure.
Assist with monitoring inventory of medical supplies, medications, and skin care products.
Use personal protective equipment (PPE) appropriately and report occupational exposures per facility policy.
Maintain confidentiality of all resident information and protected health information (PHI); report any suspected or known breaches immediately.
Report complaints, grievances, abuse allegations, or misappropriation of resident property in accordance with facility policy.
Ensure residents’ rights are honored, including refusal of treatment and advance directives.
Report any known or suspected unauthorized access to the facility’s information systems.
Current and valid LVN or RN license (state-specific as applicable)
Skilled nursing facility (SNF) experience preferred
Experience with wound care and dermatologic nursing strongly preferred
Strong assessment, documentation, and communication skills
Ability to work collaboratively within an interdisciplinary team
