Trusted by nearly half of the Fortune 500, two-thirds of the Fortune 100, and leading AI companies, PagerDuty powers always-on digital experiences for modern enterprises.

As Senior Corporate Counsel, you'll play a pivotal role in scaling our global privacy program while supporting revenue growth through strategic legal counsel on customer deals and marketing initiatives. This hybrid role requires 2 days per week in our San Francisco office, offering the perfect balance of collaboration and flexibility in an award-winning workplace.

The ideal candidate thrives in complex, fast-paced environments, builds trusted stakeholder relationships, and anticipates future privacy challenges. If you have a passion for privacy law, SaaS business models, and making immediate impact, this is your opportunity to shape PagerDuty's legal strategy.

Key focus areas include GDPR, CCPA/CPRA compliance, data processing agreements (DPAs), privacy by design, marketing compliance, and emerging regulations. You'll partner cross-functionally with Product, Engineering, Security, Sales, and Marketing teams to embed privacy into PagerDuty's operations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Revenue Support: Partner with Commercial Legal and Deal Desk teams to deliver clear privacy guidance on customer contracts, DPAs, security questionnaires, and complex enterprise deals.
  • Marketing Legal Advisory: Provide practical counsel on advertising campaigns, promotional materials, influencer partnerships, and privacy-overlapping marketing activities.
  • Business Integration: Deeply understand PagerDuty's SaaS platform, incident management workflows, and technical architecture to craft business-aware legal solutions.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work with Product Counsel on privacy by design, Procurement on vendor assessments, Security on incident response, and Engineering/IT on data mapping and access controls.
  • Compliance Operations: Oversee privacy impact assessments (DPIAs), data protection impact assessments, subject access requests (DSARs), and policy maintenance.
  • Regulatory Intelligence: Monitor evolving privacy laws (EU AI Act, state comprehensive privacy laws, CPRA amendments), enforcement trends, and industry best practices as PagerDuty's SME.
  • Strategic Advisory: Collaborate with outside counsel on high-risk matters and develop forward-looking strategies for privacy landscape changes.
  • Public Policy: Help shape PagerDuty's positions on privacy legislation, data protection frameworks, and advertising regulations.
  • Generalist Support: Tackle ad-hoc projects in product counseling, IP protection, dispute resolution, and other business priorities as needed.
  • Risk Management: Identify, assess, and mitigate legal risks across privacy, marketing, and commercial activities.
  • Training & Culture: Build privacy awareness through executive briefings, team training, and self-help resources.
  • Innovation: Implement cutting-edge privacy tools and processes to stay ahead of regulatory curves.

Qualifications

To succeed as Senior Corporate Counsel at PagerDuty, you'll need:

  • JD from an accredited law school and active bar membership in good standing (CA preferred)
  • 5+ years of relevant experience in privacy/data protection law at tech/SaaS companies or top-tier firms
  • Proven marketing/advertising law expertise, including TCPA, CAN-SPAM, and ad disclosure requirements
  • Hands-on experience with GDPR, CCPA/CPRA, and international privacy frameworks
  • Demonstrated ability to influence cross-functional stakeholders without authority
  • Technical aptitude to grasp complex SaaS architectures and data flows
  • Strategic mindset with 'see around corners' anticipation of legal risks
