Role Overview

As Director, Merchandise Planning & Allocation, lead the MP&A strategy for PetSmart Canada. Oversee planning, pricing, demand, space, and allocation to optimize sales, margins, inventory, and customer experience. Collaborate with Merchandising, Marketing, Operations, and US teams to deliver profitable growth through data-driven insights.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute strategic, seasonal, and long-range plans for merchandise, inventory, and assortments.
  • Direct end-to-end inventory management, demand planning, pricing strategies, and allocation.
  • Partner cross-functionally to align category strategies, promotions, and in-store execution.
  • Provide analytics-driven insights for assortments, localization, pricing, and product lifecycle.
  • Lead special projects enhancing efficiency, growth, and performance metrics.

Experience & Skills

Seek leaders with 10+ years in retail merchandise planning, 7+ years managing teams, expertise in planning tools, and proven KPI achievement. Strong analytical mindset, cross-functional collaboration, and passion for pet retail essential. Bachelor’s in Business/Supply Chain required; advanced degrees preferred.

  • Advanced proficiency in planning systems (e.g., Blue Yonder, SAP) (experience)
  • Proven track record driving sales/margin growth (experience)
  • Strong analytical skills with retail KPIs (experience)
  • Experience in pet retail or consumer goods preferred (experience)

Responsibilities

  • Lead end-to-end MP&A strategy for PetSmart Canada maximizing sales, margin, and inventory productivity
  • Develop seasonal/annual financial plans across vendors, customers, and merchandising segments
  • Direct merchandise planning, pricing, allocation, demand planning, and space optimization
  • Partner with Merchandising, Marketing, Retail Operations, and US teams on objectives
  • Translate consumer/category insights into actionable portfolio plans
  • Oversee inventory management ensuring optimal service levels and minimal excess
  • Drive continuous improvement via analytics, testing, and process optimization
  • Support senior leadership in key meetings and deliver growth projects
