Role Overview
As a Pet Groomer Trainee (Pet Stylist in Training) in our Ajax, Ontario location, you'll receive hands-on training from our experienced Professional Styling teams through PetSmart’s Grooming Academy. This entry-level role involves engaging pet parents, delivering best-in-class salon services under supervision, and upholding our vision for pet safety and customer satisfaction. Flexibility for evenings, weekends, and holidays is essential.
Key Responsibilities
Under supervision, perform full grooming services including baths, brushes, nail trims, teeth brushing, and sanitary care per PetSmart standards. Greet pet parents, manage appointments, conduct check-ins/outs, and recommend wellness solutions. Maintain salon cleanliness, promote sales to hit targets, respond to pet health issues, and assist other departments as needed.
Physical Demands
Stand, walk, lift up to 50 lbs (team lift over 100 lbs), stoop, kneel, and use ladders. Depth perception and composure under pressure required.
Experience & Skills
Prior grooming experience preferred (technical exam may apply). Must complete PetSmart’s Salon Academy and safety certification. Seek candidates with strong communication, organization, attention to detail, computer skills, and passion for pets.

- Develop safe technical grooming skills meeting company standards
- Recommend health and wellness solutions to pet parents
- Manage pet parent interactions, reservations, check-in/out, and rebooking
- Maintain salon cleanliness, sanitation, and pet safety protocols
- Promote salon sales, merchandise, and services to meet targets
- Identify and respond to sick/injured pets, including vet transport
- Assist other departments and follow company policies
