Role Overview
As a Pet Groomer Trainee (Pet Stylist in Training), you'll receive hands-on training from PetSmart's experienced Professional Styling teams. After successfully completing the PetSmart Grooming Academy, you'll engage with pet parents and their pets, delivering best-in-class salon services while upholding our vision, mission, values, and pet safety standards. This entry-level role in Albany, NY, offers a pathway to a rewarding career in pet care.
Key Responsibilities
Under supervision, perform full grooming services including baths, brushes, nail trims, teeth brushing, and sanitary care. Greet pet parents, manage appointments, conduct check-ins/check-outs, and promote sales to achieve targets. Maintain salon cleanliness per checklists, respond to pet health issues, and assist other departments as needed. Ensure positive pet parent experiences in-person, phone, and at register.
Daily Operations
- Develop safe technical grooming skills meeting company standards
- Consult on services and recommend wellness solutions
- Perform maintenance and end-of-day cleaning
Experience & Skills
Prior grooming experience preferred; technical exam may be required. Must complete PetSmart’s Salon Academy and safety certification. Strong communication, organizational skills, and flexibility for evenings/weekends/holidays essential. Physical ability to stand, lift 50+ lbs, and work in a pet hair-filled environment required. Proficiency in computer applications and composure under pressure a must.
