Role Overview
The Pet Groomer Trainee (Pet Stylist in Training) role offers hands-on training from PetSmart's experienced Professional Styling teams. After successfully completing the PetSmart Grooming Academy, you'll provide best-in-class salon services under supervision, ensure pet safety, and deliver exceptional pet parent experiences while upholding company values.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform full grooming services including baths, brushes, nail trims, teeth brushing, and sanitary care per PetSmart standards.
- Develop technical skills, recommend wellness solutions, and promote salon sales.
- Handle check-ins/outs, reservations, client records, and pet parent consultations.
- Maintain salon cleanliness, monitor pet health, and assist with store operations.
Experience & Skills
Prior grooming experience preferred (technical exam may apply). Must complete PetSmart’s Salon Academy and safety certification. Requires physical stamina to lift 50+ lbs, stand for long periods, work in wet/noisy environments, and flexibility for evenings/weekends/holidays. Strong communication, organization, and composure under pressure essential.

- Develop safe technical grooming skills meeting company standards
- Recommend health and wellness solutions to pet parents
- Manage pet parent interactions, reservations, check-in/out, and client records
- Promote salon sales, merchandise, and services to meet targets
- Maintain salon cleanliness, sanitation, and humane pet conditions
- Identify and respond to sick/injured pets, including vet transport
- Assist other departments and follow company policies
