Role Overview
As a Pet Groomer Trainee (Pet Stylist in Training), you'll receive hands-on guidance from PetSmart's experienced Professional Styling teams through our renowned Grooming Academy. This entry-level role focuses on mastering industry-leading grooming techniques while ensuring pet safety, salon cleanliness, and exceptional pet parent experiences. Ideal for passionate animal lovers ready to launch a rewarding career.
Key Responsibilities
Under supervision, deliver full grooming services like baths, brushes, nail trims, and teeth brushing per PetSmart standards. Engage pet parents with personalized recommendations, manage appointments, promote sales, and uphold the highest sanitation levels. Respond swiftly to pet health issues and contribute to store-wide success.
Daily Tasks Include:
- Greeting clients and handling reservations
- Performing check-in/out procedures
- Maintaining grooming area hygiene
- Assisting other departments as needed
Experience & Skills
Prior grooming experience preferred; complete our Salon Academy for certification. Proficiency in computers, strong communication, organizational skills, and flexibility for evenings/weekends required. Must handle physical demands like lifting 50+ lbs, standing for long periods, and working in a pet-filled environment.

- Attention to detail and composure under pressure (experience)
Responsibilities
- Perform supervised bathing, brushing, and grooming services including nail trims and sanitary care
- Recommend health and wellness solutions to pet parents
- Manage pet parent interactions, reservations, check-ins, check-outs, and rebooking
- Maintain salon cleanliness, sanitation, and pet safety standards
- Promote salon sales, merchandise, and services to meet targets
- Assist in other store departments and follow company policies
