Role Overview
The Pet Groomer Trainee (Pet Stylist in Training) role offers hands-on learning from PetSmart's experienced Professional Styling teams. After completing our Grooming Academy, you'll provide top-tier salon services under supervision while upholding our vision of pet safety, cleanliness, and exceptional customer experiences. This entry-level position is perfect for animal lovers eager to launch a grooming career.
Key Responsibilities
Under guidance, deliver full grooming services including baths, brushes, nail trims, teeth brushing, and sanitary care. Engage pet parents to recommend wellness solutions, manage appointments, maintain salon hygiene, and promote sales. Ensure pet safety by monitoring health and assisting across departments as needed. Participate in our Belonging culture and follow all policies.
Experience & Skills
Prior grooming experience preferred (technical exam may apply). Must complete PetSmart’s Salon Academy and safety certification. Key skills include pet handling, customer service, organization, communication, and physical stamina for lifting 50+ lbs in a fast-paced, pet-filled setting. Flexible scheduling for evenings, weekends, and holidays required.

- Excellent written and verbal communication skills (experience)
- Ability to lift 50+ lbs and work in pet hair environment (experience)
Responsibilities
- Perform supervised bath, brush, grooming, nail trims, and sanitary services per PetSmart standards
- Develop safe technical grooming skills meeting company expectations
- Recommend health/wellness solutions and merchandise to pet parents
- Manage salon check-in/out, reservations, client records, and reminder calls
- Maintain salon cleanliness, pet safety, and respond to sick/injured pets
