Role Overview
The Pet Groomer Trainee (Pet Stylist in Training) role is your entry into professional pet grooming. After completing PetSmart’s Grooming Academy, you'll work under expert supervision to master bathing, brushing, and full grooming services. This position emphasizes pet safety, exceptional customer service, salon maintenance, and driving salon success in our Ancaster location.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver supervised grooming services like baths, brushes, nail trims, teeth brushing, and sanitary care per PetSmart standards.
- Engage pet parents to recommend wellness solutions, manage appointments, and promote services/merchandise.
- Ensure salon cleanliness, pet safety, and humane conditions through daily maintenance.
- Handle check-ins/outs, client records, reminders, and sales targets.
- Respond to pet health issues and assist across store departments as needed.
Experience & Skills
Prior grooming experience is preferred but not required—complete our Salon Academy for certification. You'll need physical stamina to lift 50+ lbs, flexibility for evenings/weekends/holidays, strong communication, organizational skills, and composure under pressure. Computer proficiency and passion for pets are essential.

- Ability to lift 50+ pounds and handle physical demands (experience)
- Composure under pressure (experience)
Responsibilities
- Perform supervised bathing, brushing, and grooming services including nail trims and sanitary care
- Recommend health and wellness solutions to pet parents
- Manage pet parent interactions, reservations, check-ins, check-outs, and rebooking
- Maintain salon cleanliness, sanitation, and pet safety standards
- Promote salon sales, merchandise, and services to meet targets
- Conduct appointment reminders and maintain client records
- Assist with sick/injured pets and transport to vet if needed
- Participate in store culture, policies, and cross-department support
