Role Overview
The Pet Groomer Trainee (Pet Stylist in Training) role offers hands-on training from PetSmart’s experienced Professional Styling teams. After completing the PetSmart Grooming Academy, you’ll deliver best-in-class salon services under supervision, ensuring pet safety, parent satisfaction, and salon excellence. This entry-level position builds foundational skills for a rewarding grooming career.
Key Responsibilities
Under guidance, perform full grooming services like baths, brushes, nail trims, and teeth brushing per PetSmart standards. Greet pet parents, manage appointments, maintain client records, and recommend wellness solutions. Uphold salon cleanliness, promote sales, and assist across departments while prioritizing pet safety and humane conditions.
Experience & Skills
Prior grooming experience preferred (technical exam may apply). Must complete PetSmart’s Salon Academy and safety certification. Key skills include pet handling, customer service, organization, communication, and physical stamina to lift 50+ lbs in a fast-paced, pet-filled environment. Flexibility for evenings, weekends, and holidays required.

- Ability to lift 50+ lbs and handle physical demands (experience)
- Excellent written and verbal communication (experience)
Responsibilities
- Perform supervised bathing, brushing, and grooming services including nail trims and sanitary care
- Engage pet parents to recommend health and wellness solutions
- Manage salon check-in/out, reservations, and client records
- Maintain salon cleanliness and pet safety standards
- Promote salon services and merchandise to meet sales targets
- Assist in other store departments and respond to pet emergencies
