Role Overview
As a Pet Groomer Trainee (Pet Stylist in Training) in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, you'll receive hands-on training from our experienced Professional Styling teams through PetSmart’s Grooming Academy. This entry-level role builds foundational grooming skills while ensuring pet safety, customer satisfaction, and salon excellence. Key Responsibilities
Under supervision, deliver full grooming services including baths, brushes, nail trims, teeth brushing, and sanitary care per PetSmart standards. Engage pet parents to recommend wellness solutions, manage appointments, promote sales, and maintain a clean, humane salon environment. Handle check-ins/outs, client records, and emergency pet transport while assisting other departments as needed.
Daily Operations
- Greet clients and pets warmly
- Perform end-of-day cleaning per checklists
- Drive salon metrics through upselling
Experience & Skills
Prior grooming experience preferred; must complete PetSmart’s Salon Academy and safety certification. Proficiency in computers, strong communication, ability to work under pressure, and physical stamina for lifting 50+ lbs required. Flexibility for evenings, weekends, holidays essential, with focus on safety, organization, and pet parent experience.
Physical Demands
Stand, walk, stoop, kneel; exposed to wet environments, pet hair, moderate noise. Depth perception and team lifting over 100 lbs.
