Role Overview
As a Pet Groomer Trainee (Pet Stylist in Training), you'll receive hands-on guidance from PetSmart's experienced Professional Styling teams through our renowned Grooming Academy. This entry-level role focuses on mastering industry-leading grooming techniques while ensuring pet safety, salon cleanliness, and exceptional pet parent experiences. Located in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, this position offers a dynamic environment to launch your grooming career.
Key Responsibilities
Under supervision, deliver full grooming services including baths, brushes, nail trims, teeth brushing, and sanitary care per PetSmart standards. Greet pet parents, manage appointments, conduct reminder calls, and handle check-in/out procedures. Promote salon sales, recommend wellness solutions, maintain impeccable salon hygiene, and assist with sick/injured pets. Collaborate across departments and uphold company policies.
Experience & Skills
Prior grooming experience preferred (technical exam may apply). Must complete PetSmart’s Salon Academy training and safety certification. Key skills include pet handling under pressure, strong communication, organizational prowess, computer proficiency, and physical ability to lift 50+ lbs in a fast-paced, pet-hair-filled environment. Flexibility for evenings, weekends, and holidays required.
Physical Demands
Stand, walk, stoop, kneel, reach, and lift frequently; exposed to moderate noise, wet conditions, and mechanical parts. Depth perception essential.
