Role Overview
The Pet Groomer Trainee (Pet Stylist in Training) role involves hands-on learning from PetSmart's experienced Professional Styling teams. After completing the PetSmart Grooming Academy, you'll provide best-in-class salon services under supervision, ensure pet safety, maintain salon standards, and deliver exceptional pet parent experiences. This entry-level position offers a clear path to becoming a certified Pet Stylist.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform full grooming services including baths, brushes, nail trims, teeth brushing, and sanitary care while supervised.
- Greet pet parents, manage appointments, conduct check-ins/check-outs, and make reminder calls.
- Recommend wellness solutions, merchandise, and services to boost sales and meet targets.
- Maintain salon cleanliness per checklists and ensure humane conditions for all pets.
- Respond immediately to sick/injured pets and assist across store departments as needed.
Experience & Skills
Prior grooming experience preferred (technical exam may apply). Must complete PetSmart’s Salon Academy and safety certification. Key skills include pet handling, customer service, organization, communication, and physical ability to lift 50+ lbs, stand for long periods, and work flexible hours including evenings/weekends/holidays. Proficiency in computer applications required.

- Manage pet parent interactions, reservations, check-ins, check-outs, and rebooking
- Maintain salon cleanliness, sanitation, and humane conditions for pets
- Promote salon sales, merchandise, and services to meet targets
- Identify and respond to sick/injured pets, including vet transport if needed
