Role Overview
The Pet Groomer Trainee (Pet Stylist in Training) role is your entry into professional pet grooming. After completing PetSmart’s Grooming Academy, you'll work under supervision from expert stylists, mastering safe techniques for baths, brushes, nail trims, and full grooming services. This position emphasizes pet safety, customer satisfaction, salon hygiene, and contributing to store goals in a dynamic retail pet environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver supervised grooming services including baths, brushes, nail trims, teeth brushing, and sanitary care per company standards.
- Engage pet parents to recommend wellness solutions, manage appointments, and drive salon sales.
- Maintain impeccable salon cleanliness and humane conditions, performing daily maintenance and end-of-day checklists.
- Handle check-ins/outs, client records, reminder calls, and rebookings while ensuring positive experiences.
- Monitor pet health, respond to emergencies, and assist across store departments as needed.
Experience & Skills
Prior grooming experience is preferred but not required—complete our Salon Academy for certification. Successful candidates demonstrate composure under pressure, strong communication, organizational skills, and physical capability to lift 50+ lbs in a fast-paced, pet-filled setting. Flexibility for evenings, weekends, and holidays is essential, along with computer proficiency and passion for pets.
