Role Overview
The Pet Groomer Trainee (Pet Stylist in Training) role is your entry into professional pet grooming. After completing PetSmart's Grooming Academy, you'll receive hands-on guidance from expert stylists. This position focuses on delivering exceptional salon services while prioritizing pet safety, customer satisfaction, and salon operations in a fast-paced retail setting.
Key Responsibilities
- Under supervision, provide full grooming services including baths, brushes, nail trims, teeth brushing, and sanitary care per PetSmart standards.
- Build safe grooming skills and recommend wellness solutions based on pet needs.
- Deliver outstanding pet parent experiences through greetings, consultations, reservations, check-ins, and rebooking.
- Maintain salon cleanliness, perform daily maintenance, and ensure humane conditions.
- Drive sales by promoting services and merchandise to meet targets.
- Handle pet health issues promptly and assist across store departments as needed.
Experience & Skills
Prior grooming experience preferred but not required—complete our Salon Academy for certification. Successful candidates demonstrate strong communication, organization, attention to safety, and flexibility for evenings/weekends. Physical demands include lifting 50+ lbs, standing, and working in a pet hair-filled environment. Proficiency in computers and composure under pressure are essential.
