Role Overview
As a Pet Groomer Trainee (Pet Stylist in Training) in our Burnaby, BC location, you'll receive hands-on training from our experienced Professional Styling teams through PetSmart’s Grooming Academy. This entry-level role involves engaging pet parents, delivering best-in-class salon services under supervision, and upholding pet safety standards while learning industry-leading grooming techniques.
Key Responsibilities
Under supervision, perform full grooming services including baths, brushes, nail trims, teeth brushing, and sanitary care. Greet pet parents, manage appointments, recommend wellness solutions, and promote sales to meet targets. Maintain salon cleanliness, monitor pet health, and assist other departments as needed. Ensure humane conditions and follow all company policies.
Experience & Skills
Prior grooming experience preferred with a possible technical exam. Must complete PetSmart’s Salon Academy training and safety certification. Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, communication abilities, and flexibility for evenings/weekends required. Physical demands include lifting 50+ lbs, standing, stooping, and depth perception. Proficiency in computers and composure under pressure essential.

- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and team lift over 100 pounds (experience)
- Proficiency in computer applications (experience)
- Capacity to react under pressure and maintain composure (experience)
Responsibilities
- Perform supervised bath, brush, grooming, nail trims, teeth brushing, and sanitary services per PetSmart standards
- Develop safe technical grooming skills meeting company expectations
- Recommend health and wellness solutions to pet parents
- Manage pet parent experience including greetings, reservations, check-in/out, and rebooking
- Maintain salon cleanliness, sanitation, and humane conditions with daily maintenance
- Promote salon sales, merchandise, and services to meet targets
- Identify and respond to sick/injured pets, transporting to vet as needed
- Assist other departments and follow all company policies
