Role Overview
The Pet Groomer Trainee (Pet Stylist in Training) role offers hands-on learning from industry-leading groomers through PetSmart’s Grooming Academy. Under supervision, you'll master bathing, grooming, and salon services while ensuring pet safety and exceptional customer experiences. This entry-level position builds foundational skills for a rewarding grooming career.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver full grooming services including baths, brushes, nail trims, and sanitary care per company standards.
- Consult with pet parents on services, recommend wellness products, and drive salon sales.
- Manage appointments, client records, check-ins/outs, and reminder calls.
- Maintain impeccable salon cleanliness and humane conditions; respond to pet health issues.
- Collaborate across departments and uphold PetSmart’s values of Belonging and Recognition.
Experience & Skills
Prior grooming experience preferred but not required—complete our technical exam and Academy training. You need computer proficiency, strong communication, composure under pressure, and flexibility for evenings/weekends. Physical demands include lifting 50+ lbs, standing, and handling pets safely.

32,000 - 42,000 CAD / yearly

- Ability to work flexible schedule including evenings, weekends, holidays (experience)
- Physical ability to lift 50+ lbs and stand for extended periods (experience)
Responsibilities
- Perform supervised bathing, brushing, nail trims, and grooming services per PetSmart standards
- Engage pet parents to recommend health and wellness solutions
- Handle salon check-in/out, reservations, and client records
- Maintain salon cleanliness, sanitation, and pet safety protocols
- Promote salon services and merchandise to meet sales targets
- Assist in other store departments and respond to pet emergencies
