Role Overview
The Pet Groomer Trainee (Pet Stylist in Training) role offers hands-on learning in our state-of-the-art Grooming Academy. Under guidance from expert stylists, you'll master safe grooming techniques, deliver exceptional salon services, and ensure pet safety while building customer relationships. This entry-level position paves the way to full Pet Stylist certification.
Key Responsibilities
- Execute full grooming services including baths, brushes, nail trims, and sanitary care under supervision.
- Greet pet parents, manage appointments, consultations, and rebookings via phone and in-person.
- Maintain impeccable salon cleanliness and follow daily maintenance checklists.
- Recommend health products and upsell services to boost salon performance.
- Monitor pet well-being, respond to emergencies, and assist across store departments as needed.
Experience & Skills
Prior grooming experience is preferred but not required—complete our technical exam and Academy training to qualify. You'll need strong communication, organizational skills, composure under pressure, computer proficiency, and physical stamina to lift 50+ lbs. Flexibility for evenings, weekends, and holidays is essential.

- Ability to work flexible schedule including evenings, weekends, holidays (experience)
- Physical ability to lift 50+ lbs and stand for extended periods (experience)
Responsibilities
- Perform supervised bath, brush, grooming, nail trims, teeth brushing under PetSmart standards
- Engage pet parents, recommend wellness solutions, manage check-in/out and reservations
- Maintain salon cleanliness, sanitation, and pet safety protocols daily
- Promote salon services and merchandise to meet sales targets
- Assist in other store departments and respond to pet health emergencies
