Role Overview
The Pet Groomer Trainee (Pet Stylist in Training) role offers hands-on learning from PetSmart's experienced Professional Styling teams. After completing the PetSmart Grooming Academy, you'll provide best-in-class salon services under supervision, ensure pet safety, and deliver exceptional pet parent experiences. This entry-level position in Calgary, Alberta, is perfect for animal lovers eager to develop grooming expertise.
Key Responsibilities
Under guidance, perform full grooming services including baths, brushes, nail trims, teeth brushing, and sanitary care per PetSmart standards. Greet pet parents, manage appointments, conduct check-ins/outs, and maintain client records. Promote sales of merchandise and services to hit targets, uphold salon cleanliness, and respond to pet health issues. Assist other departments and embody our culture of Belonging.
Daily Operations
- Engage pet parents in-person and via phone for reservations and consultations.
- Ensure humane conditions and immediate action for sick/injured pets.
- Follow maintenance checklists for salon sanitation.
Experience & Skills
Prior grooming experience preferred (technical exam may apply). Must complete PetSmart’s Salon Academy and safety certification. Seek candidates with computer proficiency, composure under pressure, flexible scheduling, strong organization, attention to safety, and excellent communication. Physical demands include standing, lifting up to 50 lbs (team lift 100+ lbs), stooping, and depth perception.
