Role Overview
As a Pet Groomer Trainee (Pet Stylist in Training) in our Cambridge, MA location, you'll receive hands-on training from our experienced Professional Styling teams. This entry-level role focuses on learning industry-best grooming techniques while delivering positive experiences for pets and their parents. Obtained after completing PetSmart Grooming Academy, you'll build safe technical skills under supervision.
Key Responsibilities
Under guidance, perform full grooming services like baths, brushes, nail trims, teeth brushing, and sanitary care per PetSmart standards. Greet pet parents, manage appointments, conduct check-ins/check-outs, and maintain client records. Promote sales, recommend wellness solutions, ensure salon cleanliness, and uphold pet safety. Assist other departments and respond to pet health issues as needed.
Daily Operations
- Engage pet parents in-person, phone, and at register
- Perform maintenance and end-of-day cleaning
- Follow all company policies for humane conditions
Experience & Skills
Prior grooming experience preferred (technical exam may apply). Must complete PetSmart’s Salon Academy and safety certification. Seek candidates with computer proficiency, composure under pressure, flexible scheduling (evenings/weekends/holidays), organizational skills, and strong communication. Physical demands include lifting 50+ lbs, standing, stooping, and working in a pet hair-filled, moderately noisy environment.
