Role Overview
As a Pet Groomer Trainee (Pet Stylist in Training) in Cary, North Carolina, you'll receive hands-on training from industry-leading Professional Styling teams through PetSmart’s Grooming Academy. This entry-level role builds foundational grooming skills while ensuring pet safety, salon excellence, and outstanding pet parent experiences.
Key Responsibilities
- Under supervision, deliver full grooming services including baths, brushes, nail trims, teeth brushing, and sanitary care per PetSmart standards.
- Greet pet parents, manage appointments, conduct check-ins/outs, reminder calls, and maintain client records.
- Recommend wellness solutions, promote services/merchandise, and drive salon sales targets.
- Uphold cleanliness, sanitation, and humane conditions; perform daily maintenance and end-of-day cleaning.
- Monitor pet health, respond to emergencies, and assist other departments as needed.
Experience & Skills
Prior grooming experience preferred (technical exam may apply). Must complete PetSmart’s Salon Academy and safety certification. Seek candidates with strong communication, organization, composure under pressure, and physical ability to lift 50+ lbs in a dynamic, pet-filled environment. Flexible scheduling required.

- Excellent written and verbal communication skills (experience)
- Capacity to lift 50+ lbs and work in pet hair/wet environments (experience)
