Role Overview
As a Pet Groomer Trainee (Pet Stylist in Training) in Cherry Hill, New Jersey, you'll receive hands-on training from our experienced Professional Styling teams through PetSmart’s Grooming Academy. This entry-level role focuses on developing safe grooming skills while delivering exceptional salon services under supervision, ensuring pet safety and outstanding pet parent experiences.
Key Responsibilities
Under supervision, perform full grooming services like bathing, brushing, nail trims, teeth brushing, and sanitary care per PetSmart standards. Greet pet parents, manage appointments, conduct check-ins/check-outs, and recommend wellness solutions. Maintain salon cleanliness, promote sales to hit targets, and assist with pet emergencies or other store duties as needed.
Daily Operations
- Engage pet parents in-person, phone, and at register
- Handle appointment reminders and client records
- Ensure humane conditions and immediate action for sick pets
Experience & Skills
Prior grooming experience preferred; complete PetSmart’s Salon Academy and safety certification. Proficiency in computers, strong communication, ability to work under pressure, and flexibility for evenings/weekends/holidays required. Physical demands include lifting 50+ lbs, standing, stooping in a pet hair-filled, moderate-noise environment.

- Excellent written and verbal communication (experience)

- Recommend health and wellness solutions to pet parents
- Manage pet parent interactions, reservations, check-ins, and check-outs
- Maintain salon cleanliness, sanitation, and pet safety standards
- Promote salon sales, merchandise, and services to meet targets
- Assist in other store departments and respond to pet emergencies
