Role Overview
The Pet Groomer Trainee (Pet Stylist in Training) role is your entry into professional pet grooming. After completing PetSmart’s Grooming Academy, you'll work under supervision of expert stylists, learning top-tier techniques for baths, brushes, nail trims, and full grooming services. This position emphasizes pet safety, exceptional customer service, salon maintenance, and driving salon sales in a fast-paced retail setting.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver supervised grooming services including baths, brushes, nail trims, teeth brushing, and sanitary care per PetSmart standards.
- Build safe technical skills and recommend wellness solutions based on pet needs.
- Provide outstanding pet parent experiences through greetings, consultations, reservations, check-ins, check-outs, and rebooking.
- Maintain salon cleanliness, sanitation, and humane conditions; perform daily maintenance and end-of-day cleaning.
- Promote sales of merchandise and services to achieve targets; assist in other departments as needed.
- Ensure pet safety by identifying and addressing health issues promptly.
Experience & Skills
Prior grooming experience is preferred but not required—complete our Salon Academy for certification. You'll need strong organizational skills, attention to safety, computer proficiency, and the ability to thrive under pressure with flexible scheduling (evenings, weekends, holidays). Physical demands include lifting 50+ lbs, standing, stooping, and working in a pet hair-filled environment. Excellent communication is key for pet parent interactions.
