Role Overview
As a Pet Groomer Trainee (Pet Stylist in Training) in Chesapeake, Virginia, you'll receive hands-on training from our experienced Professional Styling teams through PetSmart’s Grooming Academy. This entry-level role builds foundational grooming skills while ensuring pet safety, customer satisfaction, and salon excellence. Key Responsibilities
Under supervision, deliver full grooming services including baths, brushes, nail trims, teeth brushing, and sanitary care. Greet pet parents, manage appointments, maintain client records, and promote sales to meet targets. Uphold cleanliness standards, monitor pet health, and assist across store departments while following all company policies.
Daily Tasks Include:
- Performing supervised grooming services per PetSmart standards
- Consulting with pet parents on needs and recommending solutions
- Handling check-in/out procedures and salon communications
- Maintaining a safe, clean grooming area with end-of-day protocols
- Identifying and addressing pet health issues promptly
Experience & Skills
Prior grooming experience preferred but not required—complete our Salon Academy for certification. Successful candidates demonstrate composure under pressure, flexibility for evenings/weekends/holidays, strong communication, organizational skills, and physical stamina (lifting 50+ lbs, standing, wet/noisy environments). Computer proficiency and passion for pets essential.
