Role Overview
The Pet Groomer Trainee (Pet Stylist in Training) role is your entry into professional pet grooming. After completing PetSmart’s Grooming Academy, you'll work under supervision of experienced stylists, learning top-tier techniques for baths, brushes, full grooms, nail trims, teeth brushing, and more. This position emphasizes pet safety, exceptional customer service, salon maintenance, and driving salon sales in a fast-paced retail setting.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver supervised grooming services meeting PetSmart’s high standards.
- Engage pet parents to recommend wellness solutions and upsell services/merchandise.
- Handle salon operations including greetings, reservations, check-ins, check-outs, and reminder calls.
- Maintain impeccable cleanliness and humane conditions; respond to pet health issues immediately.
- Contribute to store goals by assisting other departments and promoting sales targets.
Experience & Skills
Prior grooming experience preferred (technical exam may apply). Must complete PetSmart’s Salon Academy and safety certification. Seek candidates with strong communication, organization, composure under pressure, and physical ability to lift 50+ lbs in a wet, noisy environment with pet hair. Flexible scheduling for evenings, weekends, holidays required. Computer proficiency essential.
