Role Overview
As a Pet Groomer Trainee (Pet Stylist in Training) in our Chicago, IL location, you'll receive hands-on training from our experienced Professional Styling teams. This entry-level role, obtained after completing PetSmart’s Grooming Academy, focuses on developing safe technical skills in bathing, grooming, and pet care while ensuring positive pet parent experiences.
Key Responsibilities
- Under supervision, deliver full grooming services including baths, brushes, nail trims, teeth brushing, and sanitary care per company standards.
- Greet pet parents, manage appointments, check-ins/outs, and reminder calls while maintaining client records.
- Recommend wellness solutions, promote services/merchandise, and contribute to salon sales targets.
- Uphold cleanliness, sanitation, and humane conditions; perform daily maintenance and end-of-day cleaning.
- Monitor pet health, take immediate action for sick/injured pets, and assist across store departments as needed.
Experience & Skills
Prior grooming experience preferred (technical exam may apply). Must complete PetSmart’s Salon Academy and safety certification. Seek candidates with strong communication, organization, composure under pressure, and physical ability to lift 50+ lbs in a fast-paced, pet-filled environment. Flexibility for evenings, weekends, and holidays required.
