Role Overview
As a Pet Groomer Trainee (Pet Stylist in Training) in our Chicago, IL location, you'll receive hands-on training from PetSmart's experienced Professional Styling teams. After successfully completing the PetSmart Grooming Academy, you'll engage with pet parents, provide best-in-class salon services, and uphold our vision for pet safety and customer satisfaction. This entry-level role offers a clear path to becoming a skilled Pet Stylist.
Key Responsibilities
Under supervision, perform full grooming services including baths, brushes, nail trims, teeth brushing, and sanitary care. Greet pet parents, manage appointments, maintain client records, and promote salon sales. Ensure salon cleanliness, pet safety, and immediate response to sick/injured pets. Assist other departments and follow all company policies.
Experience & Skills
Prior grooming experience preferred (technical exam may be required). Must complete PetSmart’s Salon Academy training and safety certification. Key skills include strong communication, organization, ability to work under pressure, flexibility for evenings/weekends/holidays, and physical capability to lift 50+ lbs in a fast-paced, pet-filled environment with moderate noise.

- Excellent written and verbal communication (experience)
- Ability to lift 50+ lbs and work in pet hair environment (experience)
Responsibilities
- Perform supervised bath, brush, grooming, nail trims, and sanitary services per PetSmart standards
- Develop safe technical grooming skills meeting company expectations
- Recommend health/wellness solutions and merchandise to pet parents
- Manage salon check-in/out, reservations, client records, and rebooking
- Maintain salon cleanliness, pet safety, and respond to sick/injured pets
- Promote salon sales, greet customers, and assist other store departments
