Role Overview
The Pet Groomer Trainee (Pet Stylist in Training) role involves hands-on learning from PetSmart's Professional Styling teams. After completing the PetSmart Grooming Academy, you'll provide best-in-class salon services under supervision, ensure pet safety, and deliver exceptional pet parent experiences while upholding company values.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform full grooming services including baths, brushes, nail trims, and sanitary care per company standards.
- Consult with pet parents on services, recommend wellness solutions, and manage appointments.
- Maintain salon cleanliness, conduct safety checks, and respond to pet health issues.
- Drive sales by promoting merchandise and rebooking services.
- Participate in store operations and Belonging culture.
Experience & Skills
Prior grooming experience preferred; must complete PetSmart’s Salon Academy and safety certification. Seek candidates with strong communication, organizational skills, composure under pressure, and physical ability to lift 50+ lbs in a fast-paced, pet-filled environment. Flexible scheduling required.

- Excellent written and verbal communication (experience)
- Ability to lift 50+ lbs and work in pet hair environment (experience)
Responsibilities
- Perform supervised bathing, brushing, nail trims, and grooming services per PetSmart standards
- Recommend health and wellness solutions to pet parents
- Manage salon check-in/out, reservations, and client records
- Maintain salon cleanliness and pet safety protocols
- Drive salon sales through merchandise and service promotion
- Assist in other store departments as needed
