Role Overview
The Pet Groomer Trainee (Pet Stylist in Training) role offers hands-on learning from PetSmart's experienced Professional Styling teams. After completing the PetSmart Grooming Academy, you'll provide best-in-class salon services under supervision, ensuring pet safety, parent satisfaction, and salon excellence. This entry-level position builds foundational skills for a rewarding career in pet grooming.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver full grooming services like baths, brushes, nail trims, teeth brushing, and sanitary care per PetSmart standards.
- Engage pet parents to recommend wellness solutions, manage appointments, and drive salon sales.
- Uphold cleanliness and humane conditions in the grooming area, including daily maintenance.
- Handle check-ins/outs, client records, reminder calls, and immediate action for sick/injured pets.
- Assist other departments and follow all company policies.
Experience & Skills
Ideal candidates have prior grooming experience (technical exam may apply) and complete our Salon Academy training. Key traits include strong communication, composure under pressure, organizational skills, flexibility for evenings/weekends/holidays, and physical stamina to lift 50+ lbs in a fast-paced, pet-filled environment with moderate noise and wet conditions.

- Physical ability to lift 50+ lbs and stand for extended periods (experience)
Responsibilities
- Perform supervised bathing, brushing, and grooming services including nail trims and sanitary care
- Recommend health and wellness solutions to pet parents
- Manage pet parent interactions, reservations, check-ins, check-outs, and rebooking
- Maintain salon cleanliness, sanitation, and pet safety standards
- Promote salon sales, merchandise, and services to meet targets
