Role Overview
As a Pet Groomer Trainee (Pet Stylist in Training) in Colonial Heights, Virginia, you'll receive hands-on training from our experienced Professional Styling teams through PetSmart’s Grooming Academy. This entry-level role focuses on developing safe technical grooming skills while engaging pet parents and ensuring positive salon experiences. Uphold our vision of pet safety, cleanliness, and exceptional service.
Key Responsibilities
Under supervision, perform full grooming services like baths, brushes, nail trims, teeth brushing, and sanitary care per PetSmart standards. Greet pet parents, manage appointments, conduct check-ins/check-outs, and recommend wellness solutions. Maintain salon sanitation, promote sales to hit targets, and assist with sick/injured pets or other departments as needed. Follow all policies for a safe, humane environment.
Experience & Skills
Prior grooming experience preferred with a possible technical exam; must complete PetSmart’s Salon Academy and safety certification. Need strong communication, organizational skills, composure under pressure, and physical ability to lift 50+ pounds in a fast-paced, pet-filled setting. Flexible scheduling for evenings, weekends, holidays required, plus computer proficiency.

- Manage pet parent interactions, reservations, check-ins, check-outs, and rebooking
- Maintain salon cleanliness, sanitation, and pet safety standards
- Promote salon sales, merchandise, and services to meet targets
- Assist in other store departments and follow all company policies
