Role Overview
The Pet Groomer Trainee (Pet Stylist in Training) role offers hands-on training from PetSmart's experienced Professional Styling teams. After completing the PetSmart Grooming Academy, you'll deliver best-in-class salon services while learning industry-leading grooming techniques. This entry-level position emphasizes pet safety, customer satisfaction, and store cleanliness in a dynamic pet retail setting.
Key Responsibilities
- Under supervision, perform full grooming services including baths, brushes, nail trims, teeth brushing, and sanitary care per PetSmart standards.
- Engage pet parents to recommend wellness solutions, manage appointments, and drive salon sales.
- Maintain impeccable salon hygiene, conduct end-of-day cleaning, and ensure humane pet conditions.
- Handle check-ins/outs, client records, reminder calls, and immediate action for sick/injured pets.
- Assist other departments and uphold company policies.
Experience & Skills
Prior grooming experience preferred (technical exam may apply). Must complete PetSmart’s Salon Academy and safety certification. Seek candidates with strong communication, organizational skills, composure under pressure, computer proficiency, and physical ability to lift 50+ lbs in a fast-paced, pet-filled environment. Flexible scheduling required.

- Ability to lift 50+ lbs and work in pet hair environment (experience)
Responsibilities
- Perform supervised bath, brush, grooming, nail trims, teeth brushing under PetSmart standards
- Recommend health/wellness solutions to pet parents
- Manage pet parent interactions, reservations, check-in/out, and rebooking
- Maintain salon cleanliness, sanitation, and pet safety daily
- Promote salon sales, merchandise, and achieve productivity targets
