Role Overview
As a Pet Groomer Trainee in Costa Mesa, California, you'll train under experienced Pet Stylists in our Grooming Academy. Learn industry-leading grooming techniques while delivering exceptional salon services. This entry-level role builds foundational skills in pet care, customer service, and salon operations, with clear paths to advancement as a certified Pet Stylist.
Key Responsibilities
Under supervision, perform full grooming services including baths, brushes, nail trims, and sanitary care. Engage pet parents to recommend wellness solutions, manage appointments, and drive salon sales. Maintain impeccable salon cleanliness, ensure pet safety, and assist across store departments as needed. Uphold PetSmart's vision, mission, and safety standards.
Daily Tasks Include:
- Greeting clients and handling check-in/out procedures
- Conducting reminder calls and maintaining records
- Identifying and addressing pet health issues promptly
- Promoting merchandise and services for sales growth
Experience & Skills
PetSmart prioritizes trainable talent. Prior grooming experience is preferred but not required—complete our Salon Academy for certification. Successful candidates demonstrate composure under pressure, organizational prowess, strong communication, and physical capability to lift 50+ lbs in a fast-paced, pet-filled environment. Flexibility for evenings, weekends, and holidays is essential.

- Ability to lift 50+ lbs and work in pet hair environment (experience)
