Role Overview
As a Pet Groomer Trainee (Pet Stylist in Training), you'll receive hands-on guidance from our experienced Professional Styling teams through PetSmart’s Grooming Academy. This entry-level role builds foundational skills in delivering best-in-class salon services while ensuring pet safety and exceptional pet parent experiences. Obtain this position after successfully completing academy training.
Key Responsibilities
Under supervision, perform full grooming services like baths, brushes, nail trims, teeth brushing, and sanitary care per PetSmart standards. Greet pet parents, manage appointments, conduct check-ins/check-outs, and make reminder calls. Maintain salon cleanliness, recommend wellness solutions, promote sales, and assist with sick/injured pets or other departments as needed.
Experience & Skills
Prior grooming experience preferred (technical exam may apply). Must complete PetSmart’s Salon Academy and safety certification. Requires strong communication, organizational skills, flexibility for evenings/weekends/holidays, physical ability to lift 50+ lbs, and composure under pressure. Proficiency in computer applications essential.
Physical Demands
Stand, walk, stoop, kneel, lift heavy loads, and work in wet, noisy environments with pet hair. Depth perception and team lifting for 100+ lbs required.

- Manage pet parent interactions, reservations, check-ins, check-outs, and rebooking
- Maintain salon cleanliness, sanitation, and pet safety standards
- Promote salon sales, merchandise, and services to meet targets
- Assist in other store departments and follow company policies
