Role Overview
As a Pet Groomer Trainee (Pet Stylist in Training), you'll receive hands-on guidance from our experienced Professional Styling teams through PetSmart’s Grooming Academy. This entry-level role builds foundational skills in delivering best-in-class salon services while ensuring pet safety and exceptional pet parent experiences. Ideal for passionate animal lovers ready to launch a grooming career.
Key Responsibilities
Under supervision, perform full grooming services including baths, brushes, nail trims, teeth brushing, and sanitary care per PetSmart standards. Greet pet parents, manage appointments, conduct check-ins/outs, and recommend wellness solutions. Maintain salon cleanliness, promote sales to hit targets, and assist across departments while upholding company policies.
Pet Safety & Care
Prioritize humane conditions, identify sick/injured pets for immediate vet transport, and follow safety protocols rigorously.
Experience & Skills
Prior grooming experience preferred (technical exam may apply). Must complete PetSmart’s Salon Academy and safety certification. Seek candidates with strong communication, organizational skills, composure under pressure, and physical ability to lift 50+ lbs in a fast-paced, pet-filled environment. Flexible scheduling including evenings/weekends required.

- Excellent written and verbal communication (experience)
- Ability to lift 50+ lbs and work in pet hair environment (experience)
Responsibilities
- Perform supervised bath, brush, grooming, nail trims, and sanitary services
- Recommend health and wellness solutions to pet parents
- Manage salon check-in/out, reservations, and client records
- Maintain salon cleanliness and pet safety standards
- Promote salon sales and merchandise to meet targets
- Assist in other store departments as needed
