Role Overview
As a Pet Groomer Trainee (Pet Stylist in Training) in Durham, NC, you'll receive hands-on training from our experienced Professional Styling teams. After successfully completing PetSmart’s Grooming Academy, you'll engage with pet parents, provide best-in-class salon services, and uphold our vision for pet safety and satisfaction. This entry-level role offers a clear path to becoming a certified Pet Stylist.
Key Responsibilities
Under supervision, perform full grooming services including baths, brushes, nail trims, teeth brushing, and sanitary care. Greet pet parents, manage appointments, conduct check-ins/outs, and promote sales to meet targets. Maintain salon cleanliness, ensure humane pet conditions, and respond immediately to any sick or injured pets. Assist other departments and follow all company policies.
Experience & Skills
Prior grooming experience preferred (technical exam may apply). Must complete PetSmart’s Salon Academy and safety certification. Strong communication, organization, and composure under pressure required. Flexibility for evenings, weekends, holidays essential. Physically demanding: lift 50+ lbs, stand/walk extensively, work in wet/noisy environments with pet hair.

- Recommend health/wellness solutions and merchandise to pet parents
- Manage salon check-in/out, reservations, client records, and reminder calls
- Maintain salon cleanliness, sanitation, and pet safety throughout shifts
- Promote salon sales, achieve targets, and assist other store departments as needed
