Role Overview
The Pet Groomer Trainee (Pet Stylist in Training) role offers hands-on training from PetSmart's experienced Professional Styling teams. After completing the PetSmart Grooming Academy, you'll provide best-in-class salon services while upholding company values, ensuring pet safety, and driving salon success. This entry-level position is perfect for animal lovers eager to launch a grooming career.
Key Responsibilities
Under supervision, deliver full grooming services like baths, brushes, nail trims, and sanitary care per PetSmart standards. Greet pet parents, manage appointments, recommend wellness solutions, and promote sales to meet targets. Maintain impeccable salon cleanliness, monitor pet health, and assist other departments as needed. Follow all policies for a safe, humane environment.
Experience & Skills
Prior grooming experience preferred (technical exam may apply). Must complete PetSmart’s Salon Academy and safety certification. Key skills include pet handling, customer service, computer proficiency, composure under pressure, and physical ability to lift 50+ lbs in a fast-paced, pet-filled setting. Strong communication and organizational skills required; flexible scheduling essential.

- Develop safe technical grooming skills meeting company expectations
- Recommend health/wellness solutions and merchandise to pet parents
- Manage pet parent experience including check-in/out, reservations, and rebooking
- Maintain salon cleanliness, sanitation, and pet safety; handle sick/injured pets
