Role Overview
The Pet Groomer Trainee (Pet Stylist in Training) role offers hands-on training from PetSmart's experienced Professional Styling teams. After completing the PetSmart Grooming Academy, you'll provide best-in-class salon services under supervision, ensuring pet safety, customer satisfaction, and salon excellence. This entry-level position builds foundational skills for a rewarding career in pet grooming.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver full grooming services like baths, brushes, nail trims, and sanitary care per PetSmart standards.
- Consult with pet parents on services, recommend wellness solutions, and drive salon sales.
- Handle check-ins, check-outs, reservations, and client communications.
- Maintain impeccable salon cleanliness and humane conditions for pets.
- Respond to pet health issues and assist across store departments as needed.
Experience & Skills
Prior grooming experience is preferred but not required—complete our Salon Academy for certification. Successful candidates demonstrate composure under pressure, organizational prowess, strong communication, and physical capability to lift 50+ pounds in a dynamic, pet-filled environment. Flexibility for evenings, weekends, and holidays is essential.

Responsibilities
- Perform supervised bathing, brushing, and grooming services including nail trims and sanitary care
- Engage pet parents to recommend health and wellness solutions
- Manage salon check-in/out, reservations, and client records
- Maintain salon cleanliness and pet safety standards
- Promote salon services and merchandise to meet sales targets
- Assist in other store departments and respond to pet emergencies
