Role Overview
As a Pet Groomer Trainee (Pet Stylist in Training) in Falls Church, Virginia, you'll receive hands-on training from our experienced Professional Styling teams through PetSmart’s Grooming Academy. This entry-level role builds foundational grooming skills while ensuring pet safety, customer satisfaction, and salon excellence. Ideal for passionate animal lovers ready to launch a rewarding career in pet care.
Key Responsibilities
Under supervision, deliver full grooming services including baths, brushes, nail trims, teeth brushing, and sanitary care. Greet pet parents, manage appointments, maintain client records, and promote sales to exceed targets. Uphold the highest cleanliness and safety standards, assist with sick/injured pets, and support store operations as needed.
Daily Tasks Include:
- Performing supervised grooming services per company standards
- Consulting with pet parents on wellness solutions
- Executing check-in/out procedures and reminder calls
- Maintaining salon sanitation via checklists
- Team lifting for pet handling and contributing to store goals
Experience & Skills
Prior grooming experience preferred; complete our Salon Academy for certification. Proficiency in computers, strong communication, and composure under pressure required. Must stand for long periods, lift 50+ lbs, and work evenings/weekends/holidays in a pet-filled environment.

- Ability to lift 50+ lbs and work in pet hair environment (experience)
Responsibilities
- Perform supervised bath, brush, grooming, nail trims, and sanitary services per PetSmart standards
- Recommend health and wellness solutions to pet parents
- Manage check-in/out, reservations, client records, and rebooking
- Maintain salon cleanliness, sanitation, and pet safety daily
- Promote salon sales, merchandise, and services to meet targets
- Assist other departments and follow all company policies
