Role Overview
The Pet Groomer Trainee (Pet Stylist in Training) role is your entry into professional pet grooming. After completing PetSmart’s Grooming Academy, you'll work under supervision of expert stylists, learning best-in-class techniques for baths, brushes, full grooms, nail trims, teeth brushing, and more. This position emphasizes pet safety, customer satisfaction, salon hygiene, and driving salon sales in a fast-paced retail setting.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver full grooming services under supervision per PetSmart standards.
- Consult with pet parents to recommend wellness solutions and services.
- Handle check-ins, check-outs, reservations, reminder calls, and client records.
- Maintain impeccable salon cleanliness and humane conditions for pets.
- Promote merchandise, achieve sales targets, and assist other departments as needed.
- Ensure immediate action for sick/injured pets and follow all safety protocols.
Experience & Skills
Prior grooming experience preferred (technical exam may apply). Must complete PetSmart’s Salon Academy and safety certification. Key skills include pet handling, customer service, attention to detail, composure under pressure, and physical ability to lift 50+ lbs, stand for long periods, and work in a wet, noisy environment with pet hair. Flexible availability for evenings, weekends, and holidays required.
