Role Overview
As a Pet Groomer Trainee (Pet Stylist in Training) in Fort Wayne, Indiana, you'll receive hands-on training from PetSmart's experienced Professional Styling teams. After completing the PetSmart Grooming Academy, you'll engage pet parents, deliver best-in-class salon services, and uphold our vision for pet safety and satisfaction. This entry-level role offers a clear path to becoming a certified Pet Stylist.
Key Responsibilities
Under supervision, perform full grooming services including baths, brushes, nail trims, teeth brushing, and sanitary care. Greet pet parents, manage appointments, conduct reminder calls, and handle check-in/out procedures. Promote salon sales, recommend wellness solutions, and maintain impeccable cleanliness. Ensure pet safety by identifying issues and coordinating vet transport if needed. Assist other departments and follow all policies.
Experience & Skills
Prior grooming experience preferred (technical exam may apply). Must complete PetSmart’s Salon Academy and safety certification. Seek candidates with strong communication, organizational skills, composure under pressure, and flexibility for evenings/weekends/holidays. Physical demands include lifting 50+ lbs, standing, stooping, and working in a pet hair-filled environment.

- Manage pet parent interactions, reservations, check-in/out, and rebooking
- Maintain salon cleanliness, sanitation, and pet safety protocols
- Promote salon sales, merchandise, and services to meet targets
- Assist in other store departments and follow all company policies
