Role Overview
As a Pet Groomer Trainee (Pet Stylist in Training), you'll learn from PetSmart's experienced Professional Styling teams through our renowned Grooming Academy. This supervised position builds foundational grooming skills while ensuring pet safety, customer satisfaction, and salon excellence. Ideal for passionate animal lovers ready to launch a grooming career.
Key Responsibilities
- Under supervision, deliver full grooming services including baths, brushes, nail trims, teeth brushing, and sanitary care per PetSmart standards.
- Engage pet parents to recommend wellness solutions, manage appointments, and drive salon sales.
- Maintain impeccable salon cleanliness and humane conditions, performing daily maintenance.
- Handle check-ins/outs, client records, reminder calls, and rebooking.
- Respond to pet health issues and assist across store departments as needed.
Experience & Skills
Prior grooming experience preferred (technical exam may apply). Must complete PetSmart’s Salon Academy and safety certification. Seek candidates with strong communication, organization, composure under pressure, and physical ability to lift 50+ lbs in a fast-paced, pet-filled environment. Flexible scheduling including evenings/weekends required. Computer proficiency essential.

- Excellent written and verbal communication skills (experience)
- Ability to lift 50+ lbs and work in pet hair environment (experience)
Responsibilities
- Perform supervised bath, brush, grooming, nail trims, and sanitary services per PetSmart standards
- Recommend health and wellness solutions to pet parents
- Manage pet parent interactions, reservations, check-in/out, and client records
- Maintain salon cleanliness, sanitation, and pet safety protocols
- Promote salon sales, merchandise, and services to meet targets
- Assist in other store departments and follow all company policies
