Role Overview
As a Pet Groomer Trainee (Pet Stylist in Training), you'll receive hands-on training from our experienced Professional Styling teams through PetSmart’s Grooming Academy. This entry-level role involves engaging pet parents, delivering best-in-class salon services under supervision, and upholding our vision for pet safety and customer satisfaction. Located in Fredericksburg, Virginia, this position offers a pathway to a rewarding career in pet care.
Key Responsibilities
Under supervision, perform full grooming services including baths, brushes, nail trims, teeth brushing, and sanitary care. Greet pet parents, manage appointments, conduct check-ins/outs, and maintain client records. Recommend wellness solutions, promote salon sales, and ensure the highest cleanliness and humane conditions. Assist with sick/injured pets and support other store departments as needed.
Daily Operations
- Execute salon services per company standards
- Drive sales through merchandise recommendations
- Follow maintenance checklists for end-of-day cleaning
Experience & Skills
Prior grooming experience preferred; must complete PetSmart’s Salon Academy and safety certification. Strong communication, organizational skills, and composure under pressure required. Proficiency in computers, flexibility for evenings/weekends/holidays, and physical ability to lift 50+ lbs in a wet, noisy environment with pet hair.

Responsibilities

- Manage salon check-in/out, reservations, client records, and reminder calls
- Maintain salon cleanliness, sanitation, and pet safety protocols
