Role Overview
As a Pet Groomer Trainee (Pet Stylist in Training), you'll receive hands-on guidance from our experienced Professional Styling teams through PetSmart’s Grooming Academy. This entry-level role builds foundational skills in delivering best-in-class salon services while ensuring pet safety and exceptional pet parent experiences. Obtained after completing academy training, it's perfect for passionate animal lovers ready to launch a grooming career.
Key Responsibilities
- Under supervision, perform full grooming services including baths, brushes, nail trims, teeth brushing, and sanitary care per PetSmart standards.
- Develop and demonstrate safe technical skills exceeding company minimums.
- Greet pet parents, manage appointments, check-ins/outs, and recommend wellness solutions.
- Maintain salon cleanliness, sanitation, and humane conditions; respond to sick/injured pets.
- Drive sales through merchandise recommendations and salon promotions.
- Assist other departments and follow all company policies.
Experience & Skills
Prior grooming experience preferred (technical exam may apply). Must complete PetSmart’s Salon Academy and safety certification. Seek candidates with strong communication, organization, flexibility for evenings/weekends/holidays, ability to lift 50+ lbs, and composure under pressure. Proficiency in computer applications required; work involves standing, stooping, pet hair, and moderate noise.
