Role Overview
The Pet Groomer Trainee (Pet Stylist in Training) role is your entry into professional pet grooming. After completing PetSmart's Grooming Academy, you'll work under supervision of expert stylists, learning best-in-class techniques for baths, brushes, nail trims, teeth brushing, and full grooming services. This position emphasizes pet safety, customer satisfaction, salon cleanliness, and driving salon sales while upholding PetSmart's vision and values.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver supervised grooming services per PetSmart standards, ensuring pet comfort and safety.
- Engage pet parents with personalized recommendations for health, wellness, and add-on services.
- Handle salon operations including greetings, reservations, check-ins, check-outs, and reminder calls.
- Maintain impeccable salon hygiene through daily cleaning and maintenance checklists.
- Identify and respond to sick or injured pets, transporting to vets as needed.
- Collaborate across departments and promote sales to achieve targets.
Experience & Skills
Prior grooming experience is preferred but not required—complete our technical exam and Academy training to qualify. Successful candidates demonstrate composure under pressure, strong communication, organizational skills, and physical stamina to lift 50+ lbs in a fast-paced, pet-filled environment. Flexibility for evenings, weekends, and holidays is essential, along with proficiency in computer applications.
